I was never saw types indicated by numbers. What are they?

Nowadays, I guess everybody sets ext4, unless looking for adventures. Am I
wrong? Old disks still at ext2 cannot be easily upgraded...

I only changed type to f2fs when I installed a solid state drive. I guess in
that case it's important.
