Sometimes did that, sometimes not. I sometimes leave the installer
plugged in because prefer to choose what drive to boot from the
drives seen by BIOS and simply pass over the installer key.

I've done several expert installs before using the same computer
and netinst key without any problem. and of course Devuan many
times on other hardware, including the backup computer I am using
to write this note.

The only difference is that the problem started with the GPU chip
on the MB dies and I put a video card that needs a propietary
nvidia drive in a PCIe slot. I hear that doing so can cause
problems, and so this weekend I'll try a card that uses the
nouveau driver included in Devuan.

I have a replacement motherboard, but at my age and condition
swappoing out a motherboard won't be easy.
