Yes, Peter, The installation process runs normally. At its end it
asks me to reboot. I do so and the GRUB menu comes up. I select
the drive to boot. Messages flash by about loading kernal, init
ram and not loading needed firmware

The boot process then hangs with a message about missing wireless
firmware, whether I installed wirelessly or vua Ethernet.

Yes, routine installations with reliable netist or means of
Devuan Live on commercial keg all proceed nornmally. The reboot
takes me to the GRUB menu. I pick the drive to boot. The kernal
and init ram load are loaded but then the process hangs witn the
message it can't find the unneeded firmware,
