I suggest Radeon (AMD). I've been using them for years, they don't require
any firmware or proprietary driver, and the low end ones are cheap. I think
the high end ones can be as expensive as anyone else's, but I've never wanted
one.

I even have two machines containing https://www.ebay.de/itm/306771909642
HD5450 cards, which do dual display 2560 x 1600 and are passively cooled -
totally silent.

I bet a gamer wouldn't be impressed, but they're excellent for me.
