Yes.

No, MariaDB is a forked project from MySQL, so the basic engine underneath is
the same, and runs the commands natively.

Both projects were originally started by the same person, Monty Widenius, who
named the first one after his daught My, and the second one after his other
daughter Maria.

Well, it *is* MariaDB. It's just that MariaDB is so similar to MySQL that you
normally can't tell the difference.
