So this can be ignored.

I cannot immediately reproduce this. Admittedly I am not using exactly the same
setup (I have tested on Devuan freia), but in both emacs terminal, foot and
xterm, setting the ENV vars on the commandline behaves as expected.

As you say, pipewire is unforked in Devuan. That means we use the Debian
packages directly by HTTP redirection. There is no recompilation.

Certainly, I suspect it is something in your Devuan excalibur shell/terminal/kde
setup.

- What shell are you using?
- What is your TERM?
- How does a generic xterm or similar behave?
- ...
