Of course not, and it was never intended to be (Europe almost scuttled the
Internet in its early day, then tried to isolate itself from it, and
finally decided to treat it with derision, which is what big most
commercial players did during "the Short Summer of the Internet"(-Geert
Lovink), by which time the Internet,TCP/IP and all, was here to stay, to
the eternal chagrin of the powers that be. They tried, try, and keep
trying to close it down, and alas, as they have the force of inertia and
very deep pockets on their side - and 'we' don't -, they will ultimately
succeed. (Sorry, but I am of the "We Lost the War" persuation). I think we
should better spend our times and energy to think about our time _after_
the Internet. In Amsterdam, there is a group that still maintains stencil
machines in tip top condition, and buys up any amount of 'mother sheets',
stencil ink, and nail polish remover thay can lay their hands on....
