[MuSE] Output signal

I'm running muse 0.9.2 with up-to-date icecast2.
When I broadcast with the -o option in the muse commandline, the stream is
very choppy (I've tried several configurations!). If I take the -o out,
icecast streams from my soundcard and the signal is crystal clear, but I
can't use the soundcard for anything else. Is there a solution? Is this a
common issue? Is there a lame or muse buffer setting that I can change?
